Vista

I called tech support yesterday, and they told me I should reinstall windows xp .... again!

This is a high end professional computer with loads of memory, a fast disk, and upgraded chip set. This should NOT have been happening.

In my online search for remedies I realized this computer was not meant for XP, but for Vista. After some haggeling I obtained a copy of Windows Vista Business.

I had been warned adnauseum about the trouble with Vista incompatability issues, both hardware and software.

Well yesterday I took the plunge! At about 4 pm I began to install Vista as an update! This was another move I had been warned against.

I backed up all my data, and pressed update.

It took about an hour and 45 minutes to upgrade. There were few programs that wouldn't run, and I had a few drivers that wouldn't work. First thing I did was go to the Windows download page and downloaded 38 upgrades. Then I checked each program and when updates were needed I went to their web page and downloaded updates for Vista.

At about 1 AM all my programs were updated, my drivers were all working, BUT suddenly my computer couldn't see my wireless network!

I had been talking to Linksys tech about a IT job I was doing and I remembered them telling me that sometimes when an SSID isn't broadcast even other computers or extenders can't see them. So I changed my airport to broadcast my SSID, keeping WEP enabled, and voila, I was back online.

Thus far I am VERY pleased!! Fast, stable, and no sign of the problems I had been having.

I a told there is a SP coming out at the first of the year, so that will hopefully solve the SSID problem.

So far so good!! I love the new features, and it is "eye candy!"

Another car buying tip!

This is from Yahoo finance:

Monthly Payment

2. "I can afford this much per month."

"Don't tell the dealer what you're willing to pay per month. This is the biggest mistake a shopper can make. Often the dealer will focus on a monthly payment scheme, insisting you are receiving a great deal, but at the end of the day you won't really know what you paid, advises Gentile.

"If the dealer can get a number out of you, a common trick is to ask if you can squeeze out a slightly higher monthly payment, then raise the bottom-line price accordingly by hundreds or even thousands. Avoid this by insisting that you focus only on the purchase price. Walk away if the salesperson only wants to talk in monthly payments."

Notice Yahoo calls this a scheme!!! Has anyone shopped at Mathews lately?????

I accept the honor bestowed on me by having been fired "because I wouldn't fit in!" Exactly!! I will not participate in a scheme! I guess when I was told, "it's not going to work". that was very, very, accurate!!! Thanks Kenny Wilson for showing me reality!

Labels are Libels!!

I just received a phone call from an obviously disgruntled member of some Church. She asked me .... are you Cleveland or Anderson!! I told her Cleveland, and she abrubtly said "thank-you ...bye!"

She knows nothing about us except what the stereotypes and "experiences" have taught her. She knows nothing about US!! It is so shameful!

I would run very quickly from the behavior and practices of what some members of my own faith group would espouse. Probably quicker than a Church of God, Anderson.

It is all part of the labels being libels! Just because we are living in this world, don't think we are the same as those you have met, seen, or read about!

Dear Sister, I hope you took longer than 30 seconds to learn your husband was not a pedophile, a wife abuser, or an alcoholic before you married!

If you had taken time to learn about us, you would have learned we are not some name it and claim it, properity pimps, holy rollers, but rather a scripturally grounded (I have a Masters Degree), loving community of believers.

Bill Lewis at Newark Heights

We concluded our Morning Service with a Pot Luck Dinner! It was a great conclusion to a great day!! Bill Lewis is an extrordinary minister of the Gospel and so very, very talented.

He and his wife Linda ministered tremendously to our people! The body of Christ at it's best is very diverse. Bill and Linda certainly come from a different culture than do I. He was raised Church of God but has found a home as an Ordained Southern Baptist. He identifies himself as a "Bapticostal"! We have invited him back next fall for a 4 night crusade! Our people loved them!!

As did this Canadian!!

Why would I think PC's had changed??

As is well known I have been an avid Mac fan for the last several years.

Recently due to many variables I decided to return to the PC community. Two years ago I bought my wife a Gateway laptop for Christmas, and since she has been very pleased with it, I decided I would get a Gateway.

I purchased a professional level laptop (Gateway has sold it's Professional Division to MFC).Rather than make this a novel, let me just say that several weeks of calls to support due to numerous problems, my computer finally had a complete crash! I had to do a complete new install. I lost all the programs thant I bought from Gateway with my computer. But that wasn't supposed to be any problem because they were all on the restore disk. only problem being my restore disk was empty!! Sheesh!!!

So now I am waiting for a restore disk, my computer has been restored.

Because of my experience with PC's I had a backup of all my data.It has been quite a week!!MFC's tech support ranges from the totally inept to the very knowledgable! Before doing anything make sure which you have. This nightmare was not necessary if I had contacted my last tech support first.
